The leaps grow until they reach an octave, then shrink back down, then grow again.  A descending chromatic line leads to a new section of leaps that grow quicker, only to shrink again.  A descending whole tone scale leads down to a flailing of yet larger leaps, with a final uncertain calm landing a tritone away from where we started.
